TEXAS DIVE CENTER, INC

At Texas Dive Center, we believe there are very few limitations to enjoying the activity of scuba. Our Instructor Trainer is a 80% disabled Veteran of 29 years of military service himself and has been scuba diving since 1973 - Let us introduce you to the freedom of scuba diving.

Disability is the condition of those who, as a result of one or more impairments, have a reduced ability to interact with the social environment compared to what is considered the norm, therefore they are less autonomous in carrying out daily activities and they often have disadvsantages in participating in social life.

The goal of Diverse Ability is to train divers with disabilities from the initial level to the highest level of certification by applying advanced operational and evaluation standards and a high degree of safety.

The below video is from our original adaptive diving agency, Disable Divers International, which is no longer operating since so many scuba diving training agencies have created their own programs. Like us, many in that organization have joined with DiverseAbility as the new premier organization training the disabled through Diverseability Recreational  courses.

Diverse Ability strongly believes in training tailored to the person and their abilities, built to help them achieve their goals.
Each recreational course is personalized, tailor-made for the student and adapted to his individual needs. It is not possible to define in advance the duration, nor the number of lessons for its completion. The instructor is required, on the basis of the observation of the student's skills, the ability to understand and apply the knowledge learned, to elaborate the educational components of the course, to define its progress and evaluate the methods of carrying it out.

The theoretical and practical modules that characterize all Diverse Ability recreational courses are:
• the acquisition of information, principles and rules through theory (where possible based on the student's specific ability to understand)
• learning diving techniques in confined water dives
• practical application in open water dives (where applicable)

The Diverse Ability recreational courses are:
• Try Scuba Diving (Introduction - Discover)
• Basic Diver
• Scuba Diver
• Open Water Diver
• Advanced Open Water Diver

All Diverse Ability recreational courses feature a 1:1 student-instructor ratio; If necessary, it is possible that the instructor is joined by one or more assistants. The evaluation criteria of the students' preparation are based on a special multi-category certification system focused on the verification of the skills and competencies achieved and demonstrated at the end of the course. With a view to promoting inclusion, it is good practice if there is the possibility for the instructor to develop some modules or lessons with his or her student with disabilities placed in a class with non-disabled students.
