Don't drift for hours and hours in the Gulf of Mexico waiting for the Coast Guard to perhaps rescue you. They had no SMB and only a small dive light, worthless during the day hoping to be seen by a rescue pland 1000-2000 ft above the ocean. For under $350 a Garmin InReach would have gotten them rescued within 1-2 hours or less.
